doglets: (baseball java)

Java has always been the sombre, aloof loner in the Collective. Not overly loving but affectionate enough.  Medium obediance, not a programmed robot and not a chaotic rebel. Java will play awhile with Kato, but playing with humans is a no-no, there are no cute tricks, no playing with toys, no juggling tug toys just to get a Bonio.

Java likes her own peaceful solitude. A quiet reflective poet of a dog.

But we reckon her Personal Dogsitter has been popping Prozac in her Winalot. This evening Java was pestering human, didn't want the loo, didn't want her back rubbed,it was way too early for dinner - she wanted to PLAY. PLAY WITH HUMANS. So play we did, a brief game of Fetch, and she played like a daft puppy, belting after a red and blue tennis ball, and bringing it back. These many mile hikes with her Staff Association, and nights away from home, with Glyn and  [profile] balsall_heathen, seem to have chilled her out and made her more happy, confident and more interactive. So this weekend we intend to take her on a hike - anyone reccomend a good flask?

The other possible change in the Collective happened last week when in the scramble for the backdoor, Java allowed Kato to go out first, she stepped back and let the Teenager pass Perhaps in her head this acceptance of Kato's status has cancelled out any concerns she had about the possible Leadership Contest with Kato's second birthday and full maturity on the horizon.  Though whether Java would have claimed a drink problem to step down, or got herself caught red-pawed with a rent-dog to avoid the contest is doubtful. This is a dog leadership contest and they have far more dignity, truth and sense of fair play than any politicians.

As [profile] bhigman advised, dogs don't really care where they are in the pack  - as long as they know.  Kato however remains passive to Abe downstairs and in the garden, but assertive and bossy upstairs. Thats a strange one . And even though Lindsay is a frail old lady, no one messes with Lindsay, even though any of the three could easily win a scrap with her.

More Pies!

The Collective watched Fat Pets last night. And it is apparent that we are undernourished and neglected. Please send us pies. See icon - thats us, that is

All four of us (and that includes all of Kato's big rotty ass and lardy pie monster  overloved, big-boned Abe) only weigh about a whippet more than the huge 92KG pig rotty.

The pig rotty was fed 16pounds of best steak and real meat a week - we doubt theres even 16 grams of best anything in the canned stuff we get fed on.   Abe used to be a lot chubbier but then she found the Abekins diet - less mixer, treats were taken from her daily food allowance, having part of her allowance frozen in a bone so she has to exercise and work to get it, and most importantly - two exercise periods of Speed Slippy Dog with Kato per day. Having a big garden where the dogs can really get up to speed and let off steam has really helped all the Collective retain/regain their figures. However, if Abe is very skinny, it indicates she is stressed, traumatised and unhappy, such as when we moved house and when Kato first moved in.

Theres been some rather vigilante threads on dogpages today about the fat rotty owner - but I think if they want to get nasty with anyone, theres the badger baiting chav who was on the news a few days ago, who really doesn't deserve to share breathing space with any of us, dog, human or insect.
doglets: (abe wooly hat)
Java continues in her chipper mood - its getting slightly un-nerving. Gleefully flinging one of Softtoy Lobsters legs around.

In gardening news (see, summers on its way!) Kato is in the doghouse for digging an immense hole (3ft by 1ft by 2ft deep!)in the lawn. The lawn is pretty trashed anyway and will probably need returfing rather than reseeding. Some of the propagators and trays of seeds have started sprouting - spinach and random flowers are currently in the lead, with sweetcorn and chives a close second - though cucumbers will no doubt triffid their way into the lead later this week. Tomato's, celary, onions, basil, parsley, leeks and other stuff will no doubt appear later.

Note new icon - Abe looking rather cute in a wooly hat, taken on my phone earlier this evening.
