Lindsay remains a coffin dodging, medical science defying, frail, ricketty old duck. But content, chilled out, propped up on steroids but not agitated or aggravated as she was. A very disabled doglet. But dogs don't do disability with the bitterness that humans do.  Zen Dog. When paws don't go the way she wants, she just accepts the new direction. When she is fallen, she just waits patiently for her strength to return or a human to assist her. And her appetite is immense - though she is still losing weight.

kAt0 continues to be kAt0-Pan - no sign of her growing up any time soon. Her eyes were like saucers this morning when she saw Mr Snow and Mr Icicle had come to play. Java was disgusted - there'll be letters!

The Abester and the Lolloppy Flip Flop are playing Artic Slippy in the garden -

The Rulez
1. Hurtle round garden at eleventy billion miles till giddy.
2. Slam  brakes on and land snoot first in snowdrift.
3. Roll on Back.  Paws skywards. Leap Up, run indoors and shake excess snow off coat.
4. Repeat

Lindsay went vetwards yesterday. Still a very frail old girl but back axle not giving out quite as much. Is often Fallen and needs to be put the right way up again. The vet nurses know Lindsay so well now, know that she struggles with the steps up into the vets, so they run to open the door so that hippy can concentrate on keeping Looby upright. This gives the impression of an old caberet star making a grand entrance - and Lindsay does play to her audience..... yesterdays waiting room was busy.....and the crumbly old dudess loved it.

Lindsay can get herself out for a pee and sometimes gets herself back in again. Looby has lost a lot of weight, is all fluff and sticky out bones. Down to 18.5 kg - she was once at least 23kg  (so much easier to carry her up and down the stairs now) This loss of weight makes her very prone to pressure sores as she does sleep a lot and we have to turn her over so she  doesn't get Basket Sores. But she is eating and drinking and flirting..........yep, FLIRTING.

In the waiting room, Lindsay smelt the fine, damp, rubbery smell of young, warm, boy pup. Her nostrils flaring, filled with alluring, delicious scent of uncut boy doggy. Like a moth to the flame, LIndsay bimbled in a Zigga-Zag-Ah manner towards the (probably terrified) object of her desire.  But, back axle packed up, Looby slumped to the floor, with a feeble Greta Garbo-ish husky "Ooooooh......young (wheeze) man....if I were four years younger.........zzzzzzzz" and fell asleep in the middle of the waiting room.

Vet-NIck was very pleased/impressed with her coffindodging powers -  and Nurse kAt0 has confirmed (by her disinterest) that the dragons down Lindsays ear have gone.

Lindsay stopped drinking earlier in the week, but could manage small amounts food. Her swallowing reflex must be failing. By Wednesday she could barely stay upright - another trip to the vets, more steroids, being handfed, a slurry of dog food, to get some fluids in. Since Wednesday, there has been a gradual improvement. Quality of Life is such a difficult thing to measure. She doesn't seem at all bothered by her fraility, doesn't seem in pain, when she is fallen she just waits patiently until we pick her up again.

Whether its with the vet, or she just goes gently off to sleep - every day is a day borrowed.

Today she has walked herself shakily around the garden, has had a long drink, and is enjoying the peacefulness of just Little Abe for company, as Kato has gone to embaress Java at Javas Club.

Lindsay hasn't exactly bounced back from her recent acute illness. But is doing OK. Went to the the vets yesterday, and as she hasn't had dreadful gastric failure on Nuclear Antibiotics - now has a further ten days course plus the eardrops.

But dogness, she has lost some weight. Cuddling Lindsay, she is all sticky out bones and fluff. She is eating, not as much as before, but enough that we are not concerned.  Looby is comfortable, content and certainly not unhappy or in great pain. She seems to benefit from a little and often approach to meals - and she does like her tea to be at least at room temperature, not stone cold.

Lindsay has agreed to spend the first half of her daytime alone in the kitchen. (This is mainly to protect her from Nurse Kato, and her exploratory ear snooting/ and  eliminate the exhaustion and stress of overseeing posty-repelling manouvres) but by lunchtime, she seems to be getting lonely and wants to be with the other dogs. Apart from Katos nursing of her ear, the other three dogs seem to have a continued, dignified, respect for the wise matriarch, they will lie in basket with her but aren't rude nor try to challenge her authority.

Lindsay does lie in an awkward postion and needs her legs rearranging, pulling out from underneath the main bulk of the dog,  - for which she seems grateful in a Father Jack type way. "GEROFF.....NICE ONE.......ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzz"

But the Cranky old dudess won't sleep downstairs, even if the other dogs are there, she will bark until hippy carries her upstairs. And in the morning she has to be carried down again.  We have to lock the bedroom door at night, as she does forget her disabilitys and will shakily prepare herself for take-off down the stairs.

There have been some number 2 accidents, though surprisingly not number 1, we have mainly wooden or tile floors so its not really a problem. And anyway, after 16 years of loyal posty repelling, house guarding, companionship and comedy - a bit of bottom wiping is the least we can do.
